Choosing the right accessories

Accessories solve the practical problems a charger alone can’t. A socket-type charger needs a Type 2 cable that matches your car. An open parking bay needs a pedestal. A home on a limited single-phase supply benefits from a load management kit, and a shared installation in a complex usually needs a sub-meter so each owner pays for their own electricity. If you are still working out the charger itself, start with the charger sizing tool or browse home EV chargers.

What affects installation cost

Plug-in items such as cables cost nothing to install. Pedestals need a concrete base and a cable run underground, and meters and load management sensors are fitted at the DB board, so they are best added during the main installation to avoid a second call-out.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Still unsure? Speak with StrataCharge by phone, WhatsApp or email.

Which Type 2 cable should I buy?

Match the cable to your car's onboard charger. A single-phase 32 A cable covers most home charging; a three-phase 32 A cable suits 22 kW AC chargers. Longer is not always better, as extra length is heavier and harder to store.

When do I need a pedestal?

When there is no wall near the bay, such as open parking, a driveway or a visitor bay. Pedestals can hold one or two chargers and are bolted to a concrete base.

What does a load management kit do?

It measures what the rest of the property is drawing and slows the charger down when needed, so you don't trip the main breaker or need a bigger supply.

Do you sell accessories without installation?

Yes, cables and some accessories can be supplied on their own. Anything wired into the DB board or the supply must be installed by a registered electrician and covered by a CoC.
