Fleet electrification for light commercial fleets

Practical charging for delivery vans, bakkies and pool cars, starting with a pilot and growing as your fleet changes over.

The challenge

What fleets & logistics need to get right

  • Uncertain daily demand

Routes, shifts and payloads vary, so charging needs are hard to estimate without data.

  • Depot supply limits

Charging a whole fleet at once can exceed what the depot's supply can deliver.

  • Drivers who take vehicles home

Home charging needs a fair, auditable way to reimburse drivers for electricity.

  • Cost tracking

Finance teams need energy costs per vehicle, not a single electricity bill.

Electrifying a light commercial fleet

Most fleets don’t change over in one go. They start with a handful of vehicles on predictable routes, prove the operation works, then expand. We plan charging the same way: enough for the pilot, with cabling and boards sized for what comes next.

Depot charging

A site assessment at your depot checks the supply, the DB boards and where vehicles park overnight. For most light commercial fleets, commercial AC chargers with load management are enough to have every vehicle ready for the morning. Where vehicles run double shifts, a DC fast charger can cover quick turnarounds.

Home charging for drivers

Drivers who take vehicles home can charge there on a 7 kW home AC wallbox. Each session is recorded, so reimbursement is based on actual use. Our registered electricians handle the installation at depots and homes, with a CoC for each.

Reporting

After setup and commissioning, you get energy data per vehicle or driver for cost allocation and reporting. For more on how we design depot and home charging together, see our fleet EV charging solution.

Our approach

Start with a pilot, scale with data

We begin with a small group of vehicles and the routes they run. Depot AC chargers with load management handle overnight charging, home chargers cover take-home vehicles, and session data from the pilot shapes the next phase.

Our process

How it works

One team from first enquiry to a working, certified charger. You always know what happens next.

  1. 1

    Enquiry

Tell us about your property, your vehicles and what you want to achieve. Photos of your DB board help.

  2. 2

    Site assessment

We check your supply, available load, cable route and mounting position, on site or from photos.

  3. 3

    Quote

A written, itemised quote: charger, installation, any upgrades and the CoC. No surprises later.

  4. 4

    Installation

Registered electricians install a dedicated, protected circuit and mount the charger neatly.

  5. 5

    Commissioning & handover

We configure the charger, test it with you, hand over the CoC and show you how to use it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Still unsure? Speak with StrataCharge by phone, WhatsApp or email.

Do you work with heavy trucks and buses?

Our focus is light commercial vehicles, vans, bakkies and pool cars. Heavy vehicles usually need specialist high-power infrastructure; we can advise you on where to start.

How many chargers do we need for our fleet?

It depends on daily kilometres and how long vehicles are parked. Vehicles parked overnight can often share chargers on a schedule. We work it out from your route data during the assessment.

Can we track energy use per vehicle?

Yes. Smart chargers log each session against an RFID card or vehicle ID, and reports can be exported for cost allocation.

How are drivers reimbursed for home charging?

A smart charger at the driver's home records the energy each session uses, and you reimburse according to your own policy.

When does DC charging make sense?

When vehicles run back-to-back shifts or have short turnaround times. Otherwise overnight AC is usually cheaper and simpler.
