EV charger installation in Johannesburg
Home wallboxes, complex-wide charging and office park installs across Joburg, planned around your supply and certified by registered electricians.
Johannesburg EV charging, done properly
Johannesburg’s EV owners park in very different places. One week we’re mounting a wallbox in a Parkhurst garage. The next we’re running a cable backbone through a Sandton complex’s basement, or planning shared chargers for a Midrand office park. Each needs a different approach.
Our Johannesburg team [based in [Suburb]] handles the full job: site assessment, charger supply, installation, commissioning and the Certificate of Compliance.
Know your supplier: City Power or Eskom
Most Joburg homes and businesses buy electricity from City Power, but some areas are supplied directly by Eskom. That matters when:
- You want to upgrade your supply, for example from single-phase to three-phase for faster charging. The application goes to whichever supplier serves your property.
- You want to add solar. City Power runs a six-step application for small-scale embedded generation, with approvals before and after installation, and says no solar installation may proceed without prior authorisation (Engineering News, 16 April 2026).
We haven’t found a City Power requirement specific to installing a private EV charger. A charger on its own needs a dedicated circuit and a CoC. Read more on solar and EV registration.
City Power has also started rolling out its own public chargers (Engineering News, 7 April 2026). That’s useful on the road, but nothing beats waking up to a full battery at home.
Homes, complexes and office parks
Freestanding homes in suburbs like Northcliff, Houghton and Melville often have older DB boards and long driveways. A 7 kW wallbox on a dedicated circuit suits most of them. The main questions are board capacity and cable run.
Sectional title complexes and cluster homes, common from Fourways to Bryanston and Randburg, need trustee approval, a fair way to meter each owner’s electricity, and often load management so the complex’s supply isn’t overloaded. See EV charging in a complex, or read the body corporate approval guide for trustees.
Office parks and commercial property in Sandton, Rosebank and Midrand typically want shared dual-socket chargers with access control and per-tenant reporting. See workplace charging.
Planning for summer storms
Highveld summers bring heavy thunderstorms. When we specify a charger installation in Johannesburg, we discuss surge protection with you and make sure outdoor units and cable entries are rated and sealed for driving rain.

Local know-how
What's different about installing in Johannesburg
City Power or Eskom?
Most of Johannesburg buys electricity from City Power, but some areas are supplied directly by Eskom. Your supplier decides how a supply upgrade or solar application works, so it's one of the first things we check.
Complexes and cluster homes
From Fourways to Bryanston, a lot of Joburg living is in sectional title complexes and cluster developments, where the cable route crosses common property and trustees need to approve the work.
Solar needs prior authorisation
If you plan to add solar to charge your car, City Power says no solar installation may proceed without prior authorisation. We handle the application as part of the job.
Our process
How it works
One team from first enquiry to a working, certified charger. You always know what happens next.
- 1
Enquiry
Tell us about your property, your vehicles and what you want to achieve. Photos of your DB board help.
- 2
Site assessment
We check your supply, available load, cable route and mounting position, on site or from photos.
- 3
Quote
A written, itemised quote: charger, installation, any upgrades and the CoC. No surprises later.
- 4
Installation
Registered electricians install a dedicated, protected circuit and mount the charger neatly.
- 5
Commissioning & handover
We configure the charger, test it with you, hand over the CoC and show you how to use it.
Do I need City Power's permission to install an EV charger?
We haven't found a City Power requirement specific to private EV chargers. The new circuit needs a Certificate of Compliance. If the charger means upgrading your supply, or if you're adding solar, you'll need to apply to City Power first, and we'll handle that paperwork.
Which Johannesburg areas do you cover?
We work across the City of Johannesburg, including Sandton, Bryanston, Fourways, Randburg, Rosebank, Northcliff and Midrand. [Confirm service radius and any call-out fees for outlying areas.]
Can you install chargers for our whole complex?
Yes. For complexes we start with a load assessment and prepare an approval pack for the trustees, then install shared infrastructure so each owner pays only for their own connection.
How soon can you install?
Most Joburg home installs can be scheduled within [X working days] of an accepted quote. Complexes and office parks depend on approvals.
